All About The Different Types of Windows Shutters

We really don’t need to tell you, but when it comes to windows shutters, you actually have different choices. But thankfully for you, the choices can be roughly divided into four, that is, in terms of design: full height shutter, half-height shutter, tier-on-tier, and solid. In this article, we are going to walk you briefly through them.

Full height shutters cover the height of the entire window while half-height shutters or cafe shutters cover only the lower half of your windows to give you privacy. On the other hand, tier-on-tier shutters cover the entire windows, however, the top and bottom are divided so that you can close one and keep the other open. Solid shutters, meanwhile, are made of solid wood or some other solid material.

If you take a look at the different products available on the market, you will see that shutters are really nothing more than uniformly-cut sticks that are laid on a frame horizontally.

In terms of material, shutters can either be made of solid wood, composite material or plastic. We are not going to tell you which type of material to use here, but we are going to tell you to make a plan. The first step in the right direction is to consult a design expert. If you search for them online, you will see that there are many designers out there that specialize in shutter design. We know a great company that does screen porch windows called Sunspace Twin Cities and they recommended several companies for me to check out. He says when he installs his porch windows, he often gets requests for shutters.

They can help you decide on the color, design, and material of your shutter especially if you show them your house. Probably one of the most difficult things about installing a shutter is choosing one that will actually enhance the interior of your house and not make it look like a prison, which is why you need people who are better at it than you.

Hello and welcome!

My name is Don and I’m a college student pursuing a liberal arts degree. I was asked in one of my courses to create a blog about a particular topic. I couldn’t think of anything off-hand, but I know that my parents are shopping around for some new window shutters. So I thought “Window shutters. Why not!” and thought I’d share my research with the world.

Knowing what the different types of window shutters is helpful because then you’ll know what kind of options you have. Basically, window shutters fall into three categories, which includes vinyl, wooden and composite. Below is more information about each type of shutter. With that said, read on to learn more about each type shutter and then you can start shopping around for shutters.

1. Vinyl shutters are affordable and available in a number of sizes. There are hollow vinyl shutters, as well as structured hollow and solid vinyl. There’s also solid vinyl shutters that have an aluminium insert, and these shutters are great for those who want something nice but affordable.

Blown PVC is used to fill the vinyl frame of the solid shutters. Solid vinyl shutters tend to be far more stable than hollow shutters. As for how much they cost, they are very affordable.

2. Composite- These shutters are made with engineered wood, and they are known for their sturdiness. They are also resistant to humidity and weather. They are a bit more pricier than vinyl shutters, but they are still more affordable than wood shutters.

3. Wood Shutters- Wood shutters are expensive, but for good reason, with one being they are very durable and they look great. They can be formed into custom shapes, as well as sizes and they can be stained or painted. You can’t do this with composite or vinyl shutters. If you’re looking for stylish shutters that are unique and durable, then consider getting wooden ones.

Keep in mind that even though there are three types of shutters, they are sold in many styles, shapes and colors. It’s important to take your time when choosing shutters for your home. Remember, many places sell shutters, so compare different retailers and their products before you choose shutters.
